 Executive Director

United Way of Rockingham County
The role of the Executive Director is to assist the United Way of Rockingham County Board of Directors in the fulfillment of the organization’s mission.
Under the direction of the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is responsible for all administrative, fundraising, fund distribution, operations, and donor and community relations of the organization.
Responsibilities:
1.     Leadership and Financial Management
Develop, implement, and maintain, a process for establishing the strategic direction of the agency. Long-term planning with measurable goals are part of this process. An evaluation of the results of all planning should occur annually. Know and understand and be responsible for advancing the mission of the agency.
Oversee the financial operations of the organization. Adhere to the organization’s budget and monitor fiscal expenditures and investments. Complete the necessary reports and present to the Board and various committees as necessary.
2.     Fundraising
Develop and implement year-round resource development strategies that include a schedule and process for goal achievement along with the appropriate reporting.
3.     Fund Distribution
Implement the agency’s community impact plan to allocate available dollars in high impact/outcome programs and evaluate the results of these investments. Develop and maintain a community partner/program funding application, evaluation criteria, and fund distribution process.
4.     Community Relations
Develop appropriate partnerships with funded and potential community partners. This includes civic organizations, community foundations, chambers of commerce, local governments, media, and health and human service organizations.
5.     Board and Volunteer Relations
Develop and enhance positive relationships and communications with existing and potential Board members and volunteers in the community. Develop and implement appropriate training and support for these groups. Support and assist with facilitation of the duties and responsibilities as requested by these groups.
6.     Donor Relations
Enhance and develop positive relationships and communications with existing and potential donors.
7.     Marketing and Communications
Develop and maintain a year-round marketing and communication strategy to promote broad support and awareness of the value of the United Way.
8.     Human Resources and Development
Recruit, select, supervise, and retain staff as necessary. Evaluate performance in accordance with the policies of the organization and applicable laws.
Requirements:
Excellent written, verbal, and communications skills that include profiency in public speaking. A high level of discretion, ability, and accountability to perform tasks without direct supervision. Strong working knowledge of area non-profit sector and of the United Way.
Candidates should have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field. A minimum of five years experience in fundraising.
Compensation commensurate with education, experience, and professional skills.
